Hi there and in this post I want to cover Pinging. Now if you’re fairly new to Internet marketing you’ll probably not know what it is, and whether you need to know. And that’s fine but its best to have as greater understanding of the whole internet marketing strategy list just so you can form your own opinions on what might or might not work for you so here goes….
Here’s the basics
Ping was originally designed in order to check whether a computer or network is online or exists at all. It basically sends a message from one network or server to another and the message comes back, kind of like radar. It’s a technique that can be used to get backlinks as well.
Is it the key ? well you’ll need to answer that question yourself after Pinging for a while.
First of all, you can ping whenever you update your website or blog. This lets the search engines know that you’ve added new content. It often takes a while to get your updated content indexed, and pinging makes it faster. You can also ping your backlinks. Whenever you leave a backlink on another website, ping the search engines and they’ll crawl the link quicker.
How Often To Ping?
You can either ping each update or backlink manually on Google’s Blog Search page, or you can use an automated service. There are software programs that ping for you automatically, as well as online services like Ping-O-Matic, Pingler and Pingoat. When you use these programs, you don’t have to worry about it.
Ping can be used for any backlink that you leave, whether it’s a blog comment, a forum post, a forum profile, articles posted to directories or Web 2.0 sites, or absolutely anywhere else you leave a link.
Backlinking Success With Pinging
Internet marketers have used ping for years to boost their backlinks. By letting Google know you’ve got new links coming in to your site, this method helps you raise your site’s Page Rank. It also gets it done a lot faster than just waiting for the Big G to do it itself.
The only problem is that lots of folks are getting less in the way of results than they did years ago. One reason is that Google keeps updating its algorithms and bots. Since everybody was pinging like crazy for the last few years, many believe that the search engine giant now has spam filters that don’t pick up pings.
Many marketers still ping, but they recommend not doing it too much. If you over-ping in a short period of time, you’re likely to get ignored. If you want to ping in bulk, spread it out over several days or weeks.
Make Your Own Decision
Some marketers don’t ping because they say it’s not necessary. Google will find your backlinks whether you ping or not as long as you’re leaving them on good sites and they lead to a content-rich site. In other words, a lousy backlink will be a lousy backlink even if you ping. And if you put out backlinks to a profile or other page that’s weak in content, it won’t make any difference.
Internet marketers disagree on whether or not it’s worth your time to ping. A more productive way to boost your backlinks is to backlink to them. For example, if you’ve got articles on directories like Ezine, create another backlink from one of your Web 2.0 or social media sites to give the Ezine backlink more juice. This is a proven technique for increasing Page Rank.
Here’s My View
I’d recommend experimenting with pinging and seeing if you get results. If you do, keep at it. Don’t invest in any software programs or pay services just yet. Try to develop a pinging strategy that works before you invest anything in it.
