Take The Opportunities That Life Offers Up!

Hi There

We live in a relatively small seaside community and fortunately there’s a good community spirit and lots of socialising at local clubs and associations – great place to bring up your children and mine certainly made the most of the beach when they were young

When we moved there were were both time & money poor, the houses had been foreclosed on so needed work, we’d pushed ourselves financially to buy it and I was in the middle of a business takeover working stupid hours to try & get the deal through – then my wife fell pregnant (absolute joy but stress as well – she’d have to give up work etc, etc)

Charity begins at home

Now bear with me on this, I’ve never been sporty or really interested in sport, football just turns me off pretty much, I didn’t work locally,  and because I went away to boarding school I never really developed a group of close male friends, it just didn’t really happen for me.

Now that didn’t really bother me because I seemed to be always working and then the children came along. But then my next door neighbour asked me, not once but several times if I fancied joining the local Rotary club (for those of you who don’t know Rotary is a worldwide organisation, 1.2 million members  stated in the States that raises money for local and international charities and good causes)

Well the club meets on a Thursday evening, I went to the gym on a Thursday so I kept refusing and also said I was just too busy, couldn’t commit etc. etc. (excuses) – this went on for several months – finally I think he got fed up of asking me and who could blame him

Then something happened another guy who I met, really liked & got on with was also a Rotarian and once again he asked me to join him at a Rotary evening –p[ and I gave in

Went along had a great time, realised great bunch of members some of whom I knew vaguely_ couldn’t believe what a prat id been not joining sooner

Takeaway – grab opportunities don’t procrastinate

Not only did I really enjoy the social side of Thursday evenings – a meal and a few drinks but suddenly I experienced the new found camaraderie of a bunch of lads together – having a good time, taking the mick out of each other and then the serious side of doing stuff to raise money for good causes.

Takeaway – blimey you feel good giving something back to your community

To your success
