The keywords found on your website help Google to put it in the right place. Naturally, your website probably already has plenty of related keywords about the right subject. You might get lucky and have Google show your website at the top of the list of common searches. However, why leave it to chance?
SEO (the practice of being listed at the top of Google) helps you design your website so there’s no doubt. Once you know the keywords, you can place more of them on your pages. That’s why it’s called On-Page SEO.

This is another important idea to understand. Google really doesn’t list websites; they list pages from the website. What’s the difference? A website is really a collection of pages. Google doesn’t always send people to the front page of your website. Instead, they may send them to one of the pages further inside your site. That’s why you need to be looking at the keywords for each page.
Your website may be about “grooming poodles,” but it won’t help you to use the keyword once on every page. Instead, you have to pick out a few pages and make sure the keyword shows up between 1% and 4% of the time. However, don’t overdo the keywords on a page. If you do it too much, they’ll simply drop you from the search results. You should list keywords frequently enough that Google knows the main topic of the page.
