Hi now this post might be a little controversial, so I warn you know & here’s why: some internet marketers will tell you to totally steer clear of what I’m about to discuss, saying its all rubbish and not worth using, I’ll tell you what I think a bit later on…….
Ok Let’s get started – so what is PLR?
PLR stands for ‘private label rights.’ These are pre-written articles, ebooks, audio etc in your niche that you buy in packs. They’re resold over and over again, and anybody can use them for anything. What the term PLR means is that the writer has given you certain rights to use the product.
What’s the big advantage?
PLR is cheap as hell. And often, even at such a low price, it’s very high quality. Established web content writers offer their own online PLR stores where they’re constantly adding new content in new niches. It’s a smorgasbord for marketers who are tired of writing or outsourcing their content creation.
The Downside?
The only downside is that Google hates PLR. If you’ve bought a PLR pack from a good writer, you can be sure that lots of other folks have too. This means you’re all putting the same content on your sites, blogs, article directories and so on.
There’s a very simple way to make PLR work for you and make it original. You can do a little tweaking, editing or repurposing, and you’ve got whole new content for a fraction of the price! Here’s how you make that PLR original.
Rewrite It
The most common way to use PLR is to rewrite it. It’s not really enough to just tweak the title or the first paragraph. The Google duplicate penalty is just a myth, but you should still give it a good rewriting. There are several ways to do this; one is to have it-rewritten line-by-line. Another is to cut it up and rearrange it so it’s totally original.
Here’s My Take On It & Why You Should Be Using It!
Many of the critics of PLR do absolutely have a point, there’s loads of absolutely crap out there that is poorly written, badly researched and in some instances doesn’t even make sense. But likewise there’s still loads out there that’s conversely well written and researched – its all about sorting the wheat from the chaff as the saying goes!
And doing exactly as Ive said above – RE -WRITE IT.
Make it your own, make it unique to you, use the PLR as a first draft if you like. It’s especially useful if you want a product in a niche in which you have little knowledge.
And just to cap off all excuses – if you feel unable to re write yourself use an outsourcer.
And Here’s Another way – Use Public Domain material
If public domain is something you want to try out – do it.
My Top Tip
Here’s a little tip for you – when you re-write, or have it re written you’ll need to check how unique your re-write is (or not as the case might be). The more unique the better.
I tell you it works I have a number of sites promoting ebooks & audio products that were originally PLR products, not now but that’s how they started out – so try it, that’s my take on the subject
Other Opportunities & uses
You can also use it as the basis of your article’s research. For example, if you’ve got a PLR article with tips, you can turn each of those tips into its own blog post or maybe even article if you can get creative with it.
Another way you can make it original is by plugging it into a template. If you have an article that’s ‘6 Facts About Tummy Tucks,’ you can turn all of those facts into opposites, and now you’ve got ‘6 Myths About Tummy Tucks.’ Turn your tips into common mistakes, and turn benefits articles into pros and cons.
Put It All Together
Google likes longer articles, especially after the Farmer Update. Take a couple of your PLR articles and turn them into one big one. Now you’ve got a nice juicy 1,200-word article instead of 3 quick 400 worders! This takes just a little bit of tweaking.
You can even take it one step further and put together an eBook out of all of your PLR. Just arrange it in a logical order, create a contents page, and slap an introduction on it. This is how lots of people create their information products. Just be careful if you’re publishing on Amazon’s Kindle because they’re cracking down on PLR.
Repurpose It
One of the best things you can do is to repurpose your PLR. This means taking the written content and turning it into something entirely different. For example, use your articles as scripts and make videos out of them. This presents the information in a totally new way, and you can use YouTube to get traffic to your site.
The same goes for audio files. You can turn your articles into a podcast. Instead of just reading them, you can use them as outlines, or talking points for an interview.
There’s so much you can do with PLR content and this is really just the tip of the iceberg. Basically, it’s not enough to just buy them and use them as-is. PLR offers quick, ready-to-use content that’s ridiculously cheap, but you’ve still got to tweak it a bit to make it original.
