How To make Money From Your Opt-In List

Ok I’ve been telling you for some time now that “The Money’s in the List” and hopefully the penny has now dropped and you’ve realized that you need a good opt-in list.  No doubt you’ve read articles, reports etc about ‘how to’ ‘why you need’ a list and heard of many success stories of people creating a small fortune with opt-in lists you finally decide you need to get stuck in and develop your own.

But now you need to step back and really consider what you might do with your list, what you might sell and how are you going to deliver that sales message to your list – what auto responder provider shall I go for and can I construct a bank of auto responder messages that will deliver my sales message to make my list want to spend?

Stop & Truly Analysis Your Position

Consider your current position with your online activities, truly analysis what you are doing and most importantly achieving,

In fact, you may be currently losing money. You maybe hiring writers to help you out, or there are some expenses incurred, for most of us in the early stages this is absolutely true, certainly for Sam & I there have been several years where we have stopped and started but still been paying out to stay on various programs etc and therefore made a loss.

What do you want to achieve / this is a critical one – even if you develop a big list, in many instances only a very small percentage will actually buy from you, (you could very easily still be losing money)

Targeting is Absolutely Key

So what could go wrong? Why have others succeeded where you have might have failed so far? The most common mistake is that you dived straight in.  You need to plan out as Ive identified above, think about what you want to achieve It’s all about targeting, look at it this way – you have a general health site, you work it hard and build a list and then market specific health products lets say e-books to the entire list – so you end up promoting a ‘Help to stop Eczema’ e-book – problem is because you’ve built a ‘general’ list many possibly most will not be interested in eczema – its just far too broad.

You chose a topic where you think could be quite popular and would earn you money. This just not the case. Just because you wrote people from the list doesn’t mean they are going to buy instantly. Read on & get your head round the most important factor – TRUST.

How Do I Build Trust?

Understand this – ‘People buy people first’. In your marketing to your list you need to communicate ‘you’, your personality, who and what you are, talk about the tips and products you use, offer free giveaways – a report, audio. Never ever sell to your list every time you communicate that’s a sure fire way of getting a flood of unsubscribes hitting your inbox. Build the trust and over time you’ll develop a responsive (ie they’ll buy, and buy again etc) and moneymaking list. Hope this helps, do let us know how you get on.
