Gomo – Google’s New Service That Gets You Mobile

By

Hi being online is like any other business, its absolutely vital you keep your well educated and bang up to date with changes and technology advances. But most importantly it’s about the latest ways to communicate with your customers and being ahead of the marketing curve, so today we’re covering Google’s new mobile service

Yes, you need to go mobile.  If you’re website isn’t mobile-ready, get it ready because they say that by 2013, more people will be using mobile devices than PCs.  Gomo is Google’s new mobile service that’s supposed to help business turn their PC sites into mobile sites.

What Does Gomo Do?

What Gomo does is that it shows you what your site looks like mobile and tells you what you need to make it more mobile-friendly.  You just enter in your site’s URL and it shows you the mobile version of your site.  It evaluates how mobile it is and then makes recommendations on what you should change.

If your site doesn’t measure up in terms of mobility, the site has a huge listing of resources, vendors and service providers that specialize in mobilizing your site.  Everything you need is listed right there on their resource page.

I was really excited to find Gomo but when I checked it out, I was a little let down.  The reason is that the site’s ‘Gonometer’ just basically checks load speed and asks you 4 questions.  Based on that, it tells you whether or not your site’s ready.

What about the mobile version of your site?  As far as I could tell after putting in a few of my sites, it just shows a shrunken version.

Maybe Gomo isn’t finished yet and it’s going to start offering more.  Or maybe it’s just a marketing tool to get more businesses to make mobile websites.  Google is heavily invested in the mobile Internet, and after a bit of research I found that around 80% of their advertisers aren’t mobile yet.

Gomo For Internet Marketing

Is it useless?  Not if you’ve got the online entrepreneur mindset!  After some thought and discussion with friends, I came up with 4 ways that you can use Gomo for profit, especially if you’re a mobile service provider.

Here’s My Top 4 Tips

1) If you’re a service provider who’s involved in any way in mobile services (mobile website design, mobile marketing, etc.), you’ve now got a great way to convince stubborn clients.  Most businesses are clueless about mobile and unconvinced that they need it.  Now you can show them the Gomo site and say, ‘Look – Google says you need to go mobile!’

2) For those of you who build sites fast, there are lots of domains with the Gomo name available.  Register a bunch of these and wait until it starts to take off.  You can combine your marketing for these sites with the above idea.

3) The site lists a bunch of mobile case studies that I don’t think can be found anywhere else.  You can use these to make information products and other content about going mobile.  There is a lot of good, specific information here.

4) One more thing that you can do is to get yourself listed as a vendor on the Gomo site.  If it gets really big, you’ll get big with it!  I’m not sure how to do this, but there aren’t a whole lot of sites listed.  I don’t think very many Internet marketers have thought of this yet.  It might be really easy to get your service listed there.

Why doesn’t Gomo offer a service that mobilizes for you?  The reason is that when it comes to going mobile, there is on one-size-fits-all solution.  That’s why they just list various providers.

The service may or may not be finished yet, but there are definitely some ways that we can use it.  Mobile is the future!
