Dragon Naturally Speaking – My Review

Hi there, now today I’m going to be really honest with you, Ive overlooked something. I bought this piece of software some time back, didn’t get round to using it until recently and ever since trying it Ive been kicking myself this it s taken me this long to discover just how good and useful it is – blimey what a huge amount of time could have saved !!!

Dragon Naturally Speaking is a software program that writes your content for you. All you have to do is dictate your article or web content, and it writes it. You don’t even have to touch the keyboard at all. This is an excellent program that can cut your writing time down to about a third.

You say a sentence and after a second, it appears on the screen. When you want to add punctuation, you just tell it so. For example, say ‘comma,’ and a comma appears. When you’re ready to start a new paragraph, tell it ‘new paragraph.’ You can even tell it which words or phrases to bold, underline or italicize.

You Need To Train It!

The only downside of Dragon Naturally Speaking is that you have to train it first. What this means is that it has to get used to your voice. You do this by reading scripts that come with the program. It adjusts itself to your voice, intonation and accent.

You have to spend some time doing this. There are several scripts and you have to read them repeatedly. It may seem like a hassle, but trust me when I say that it’s well worth it. After several hours of training, it makes almost no errors at all. You still have to skim or edit a little, but it’s much faster than actually typing and composing the content yourself.

As far as the training goes, I did it in a long afternoon. I should say, ‘a long, tedious, boring afternoon.’ But still, it was ready to go the next day and I’ve had to do almost no editing since then. Another way to do it is to spend just an hour a day training your DNS. That’s probably a better way for most people to go because it’s a dull experience.

Its Just so Versatile

What I love about DNS is that there are so many different things you can do with it. Aside from writing web content, you can use it to capture ideas quickly. Just talk to the computer and it’ll jot your notes down for you. You can also use it for brainstorming and dictate ideas when you’re doing something else. You can use DNS for blog commenting, forum posting, Facebook updates and whatever else. I even used it to write an ebook!

My favourite use of DNS is to create original content out of PLR without even typing a single word. You can just read the PLR content and put it into your own words. How long does it take you to read a 500-word article aloud? That’s how long it takes to rewrite it – just a couple of minutes.

One Little Tip

One thing I would recommend is getting a quality microphone. It comes with its own, but if you have a really good mic, that’ll cut down on training time and errors.

Once you get Dragon Naturally Speaking trained and start using it on a daily basis, you wonder how you ever lived without it. It makes content creation a breeze and, if you’re anything like me, that’s one of the most time-consuming of my daily tasks.
